Inexpensive car insurance is what every driver wants, but how do you get it. Here are some ideas as to how to get inexpensive car insurance.

The first thing to do to save money is to shop around for different rates. A lot of drivers make the mistake of going with the first company that they contact and get a rate from. The easiest way to shop multiple companies is to go online and use the websites that offer rate comparisons, pick a site that won't charge you for using it. I would recommend that you use at least three different sites to get good rate comparisons. The reason why I ask you to use more then one website is because different insurance companies are tied to different rate comparison websites. Once you have all your rates, check them out to make sure they are offering the same policies for the rates they are offering. Also, make sure that you check out the companies that offered the rates to see if they are reputable companies. Check with your states insurance commission or the Better Business Bureau to see if they have any complaints against them. If you don't have access to the internet, one can hire an insurance broker who will shop on your behalf and give you rate comparisons. If you don't want use an insurance broker, then open up the phone and call around, and call at least five different companies to get a good idea of rates.

The second way to lower car insurance rates is to raise the deductible amount and lower coverage amounts. If you make these changes, just make sure that you can afford the higher deductible payment. Also check to see that you have not under insured yourself, because if one is under insured what ever the insurance company doesn't pay, you are responsible for, and that can lead to financial ruin. One can also remove some coverage's from the auto insurance policy to save money, but again please make sure that you are not under insuring yourself.

The third thing that can be done to save money on one's rates is to ask for discounts. You can get a discount if you use the same company that you have your home owners or renter's insurance through. Insuring more then one vehicle with the same company qualifies for a discount. Having good grades will help students get lower rates. Installing an alarm in your vehicle will get a discount. Taking a defensive driving course will help lower your rate. Being married or being female also qualifies for discounts. Having a safe driving record will also get one a discount. Some insurance companies will automatically give you discounts, others wont unless you ask for; so make sure that you read your policy carefully to see that the discounts have been included in your rate if you qualify for any of the discounts listed above.
